JOE BLACK TAKES OVER AS HEAD coach

6/3/2026

Today, Staples High School proudly announced Joe Black as the next Head Coach of the Staples Boys Basketball program.

Coach Black is a familiar face within the Staples basketball community. He has served as a Varsity Assistant Coach since the 2023–24 season and has spent many years developing young athletes through the Westport PAL basketball program. He succeeds David Goldshore, who stepped down in April after four years as Head Coach.

Staples High School Athletic Director VJ Sarullo shared his enthusiasm about the appointment:

"Staples High School is proud to welcome Joe Black as the next Head Coach of our Boys Basketball program. Throughout the interview process, Coach Black distinguished himself through his passion for working with student-athletes, his deep appreciation for the Staples community, and his clear vision for the future of our program. He understands the traditions that make Staples Boys Basketball special while embracing the responsibility to continue moving the program forward. I am confident that his leadership will foster both immediate growth and long-term success, and I look forward to working alongside him in the years ahead."

Coach Black's commitment to student-athletes, his knowledge of the program, and his connection to the Staples community make him an exciting choice to lead the Wreckers into their next chapter.

Congratulations, Coach Black! We look forward to the future of Staples Boys Basketball under your leadership.

GO WRECKERS!
